On July 17, 2024, in the Crimean Ethnographic Museum, located on Pushkin Street in the central part of Simferopol, an exhibition Ethnic features of the world people of Russian photographer Viktor Pinchuk, who traveled to several dozen exotic countries, was held. The virtual (digital) format allowed the author, without limiting himself to the number of picture frame and the size of the exhibition hall, to present to the public a much larger volume of works than at a regular personal exhibition, limited by the listed factors. In relation to this case — almost three hundred...

The photographic material was captured during travels and solo expeditions over two decades; The exhibition presents images of the indigenous peoples of Africa, Asia, Oceania and Latin America in traditional clothes, their homes, peculiar dishes of native cuisine, etc.

The work of the creator of the exhibition was not easy (given the very modest material resources and lack of funding from outside): in order to get to some parts of the globe where people live, whose existence is almost untouched by civilization, sometimes it was necessary to travel in the back of trucks with native passengers, on top of product packages. A similar method of travel, common in the central part of the African continent, was used when traveling to Loyangalani (Kenya) and Ugandan Karamoja. And this is by no means free hitchhiking: the natives officially buy tickets for transport, which is so unusual for Europeans.

The exhibition, timed to coincide with the annually celebrated professional holiday "Ethnographer's Day", lasted just over an hour, part of the allotted time was used by the author for dialogue with visitors, where it was possible to go beyond the current topic, talking about the routes traveled, road adventures and more...

«Overcoming dozens of expedition routes in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the islands of Oceania — as a journalist, photographer, and explorer of little-known corners of the planet — one is imbued with the traditions and customs of indigenous peoples. The term “ethnography” is a combination of the Greek words “ethnos” and “description”. Following the principles of “cultural immersion”, observing ethnic groups at the early stages of socio-economic development — for a while you become one of them, so that later, like an actor who has played a role, to get out of the image, recreating in books the passed, seen, felt.
