Tatar language Commission together with Wikimedia Russia and Tatar Wikimedians User Group launched first international wiki-marathon on writing Tatar Wikipedia articles on geography, culture, history and contemporary life of Tatarstan. «My Tatarstan» (тат. Минем Татарстан) contest runs from December 15, 2020 through January 31st, 2021.

The contest received publicity support from Tatar-inform information agency that hosted an online press-conference (Архивная копия от 17 мая 2021 на Wayback Machine) on December 4th. Additional information in English is available from the copy of the press-release and Contest provisions.

Wiki-marathon rules state:

All participants creating 4 or more qualifying articles will be awarded. Contest prize fund amounts to 200 thousand rubles and will be shared proportionally to the Quality Points earned by each finalist for the sum total of contributed contest articles.

The contest idea was born on October 12, 2020 during the weekly meetings on discussing the Roadmap for using Wikimedia opportunities for providing sustainable digital future of Tatar language with the head of Republic of Tatarstan State Council (Parliament) Committee on Education, Science and Ethnic questions Ayrat Zaripov.

The project was supported by the Head of the Commission, Vice-Speaker of Tatarstan Parliament Marat Akhmetov. Prize money was contributed by «Service Agro» Public Limited Company, with the publicity support provided by Tatmedia holding, "New Century" and «Tatarstan» TV companies.

Contest organization is led by Wikimedia Russia. Technical support and article evaluation will be done by Tatar Wikipedia administrators — members of Wikimedia Community of Tatar language User Group. The Jury is chaired by 2018 Wikimedian of the Year Farhad Fatkullin.

Article evaluation and awarding points will be done using the Jury Tool that automatically accepts only articles, meeting basic quantitative criteria. All contest articles will further be marked by memorable templates with their author's username and grouped together in a Special contest category.

Wikimedians also plan to use this Wiki-marathon as a preparation to the third annual «Tatar 4.0» contest to take place from February 21st through April 15th, 2021. The leadership of the Tatar language Commission also welcomed results of the previous year's «Turkic Marathon» and «Core of encyclopedia» Wiki-contests, inviting Wikimedians to think about other possible themed contests for engaging global Tatar speakers into Wiki-content creation on topics of particular benefit for language preservation. In parallel, Tatarstan Wikimedians are also working on preparing to have a dedicated multilingual «Discover Russia» contest.

Tatarstan's experience of using Wikimedia platforms for preservation and development of regional linguo-cultural heritage is to be presented on December 18, 2020 at the country-wide online forum «Language Policy: Practices from across Russia» organized by Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs.
